Job description
As a flight nurse, you’ll train as an aircrew member on aircraft specifically designed for the movement of patients. Your mission will be to provide in-flight care during the transport of ill or injured patients to healthcare facilities. There are also opportunities for special duty tours at U.S. Air Force medical facilities or on humanitarian missions around the world.
Flight Nurses in the Air Force Reserve can obtain paid Continuing Education Units (CEU), and you may qualify for student loan repayment or bonus incentives. In addition, you will receive the benefits, privileges and respect afforded a commissioned officer in the Air Force Reserve.
You will serve at the Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron nearest to your home. Reserve medical units typically meet a minimum of one weekend each month, and each unit performs a 15-day period of active duty (also called an annual tour).
Desired Skills and Experience
• Must be a graduate with a Baccalaureate or Master’s Degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited BSN or MSN program
• Possess a valid U.S. or U.S. territory Registered Nurse license
• Successfully complete a flying class medical examination
• Be accepted by the medical unit commander and Air Force Reserve Surgeon General
• Pass a security investigation
